If you’re hosting a murder mystery party, then a script becomes quite necessary. Unless of course, you’re a great mystery writer, and can write a great plot for your guests to enjoy. But if you’re not, then there is no problem. You’ll easily buy one online, easily downloadable in an instant. It’s as easy as picking up a novel from a local bookshop. Which also suggests it could be difficult in a way that, you’ll be unable to choose which script you’d like to buy.
On a side note, I’ve listed below the various factors you should consider while selecting a script. If you don’t want to know all this and would rather directly see the list of mystery scripts available, I’ve included to link to that in the bottom.
It all comes to personal taste. But at the end of the day, it’s all murder and mystery. OK, now to choosing a script.
1. Type/Theme of script: Well, you’d be surprised to see such a sub-heading. Because, there are really no “types” to mystery scripts. They are just like murder mystery novels. Every single one is unique in it’s own way, and every single one would give you the mystery party of a life time. But there are special scripts designed specially for holidays like Halloween and stuffs like that. So if your party falls on such dates, you can choose such holiday specific scripts. But it really doesn’t matter what you choose, in the end.
2. Number of guests: Most of the mystery scripts have 1 host, and below 10 suspects. Certain “large-scale” version can have up to 25 people with roles. Not all of them would be suspects. But they’re sure to have a role to play, an objective to complete in the course of the party. Some incident will occur in the start of the party, and these suspects and “sidekicks” would be put in the spotlight. One of them is the culprit. And it’s to the wisdom of the remaining guests to unfold who is the murderer. Essentially, those guests who are not suspects become sleuths. And the scripts do normally come with instructions on how to manage guests, and what is the “maximum” capacity you can have.
3. Venue: This is not necessarily script related, but many people have a question about this. Most of the time, murder mystery parties are dinner parties. And it’s possible for guests to enjoy their meals while playing the mystery party. Some thinking on your part, depending on the situation should do the trick. Any murder mystery script would fit into your dinner party with slight or no work.
I guess, that’s all. You don’t need to think excessively about clothing. Formals normally do well, just like in normal parties. The only thing left is to enjoy your party, and give your guests a good time.
And before I forget, here’s a link to the list of downloadable mystery party scripts I’ve compiled. You can see them by clicking here. I’ve given some basic information along with them, for easy reading. Again, have fun!
